Allow Users to Customize Donor Reports

Despite interest in the Donor Report functionality, a number of our users have declined to use the Donor Reports, because they feel that the reports are not customizable. We believe that allow more editing of the reports (i.e. unique headers, watermarks, ability to move/format text, etc.) would lead to much greater adoption at UW-Madison.

I know I have asked for ways to customize the reports for several years. What prints now is very generic looking. The picture is extremely small in addition to the extremely small font and has too much white space. This request is from 2020 so has been a need for quite awhile and the reports need to be modernized as many donors prefer paper reports or we don't have an e-mail address for them. As much as would like them to all use the online donor portal, it is just not a good fit for many of our donors.

Client specifically has asked for the ability to change the font on the Snapshot where the FUND name appears. It is currently Times New Roman (or something similar) and would like it to match the font in the report. Additionally, the date field is showing on bulletins, and they want the ability to show or not show particular dates.

Yes, we need to be able to brand these better and modernize them. Many donors want a paper report and what the system produces is very lack luster and the font is way too small. Please make this enhancement happen.

Yes, we heavily use the donor report feature and more custimization would be better. I second the ability to adjust margins, change the "details" and remove the logo if there is no student photo. Also the ability to pull the new photo instead of the old one would be great.

I completely agree with the numerous things mentioned in the preceding comments. Though we have a small number of donors who utilize the online portal the majority still want paper reports (even the portal donors!) The inability to make edits to margins - ugh! copy/pasted text can be in 11 pt but inserted merge fields can't - ugh! There is no point to the "view" option in Cover Letters because this does NOT show you how the letter will fill an actual sheet of paper when printed. I have to continually generate a report for one of my funds to see if the new letter I am creating fits on one page - ugh! My frustration with going in to disbursements to edit students post acceptance info so I wouldn't have one line go onto the next page almost drove me to drink. It was a colossal waste of my time. I am hopeful the BB is paying attention to this idea.

We would love more ability to customize as well -- changing the font size, hide the logo if a student didn't upload a photo, renaming the "details" header or removing it entirely, ability to combine two fields/have them display next to each other (city, state instead of entirely separate fields for city and state). The profiles we used to create were printed horizontally using two columns, so it was two profiles per page and then we cut them in half. It eliminated having so much white space from the import fields and it was nicer size to enclose in a report or letter.

i wanted to add to comments - the margins on the Disbursements page could easily be widened on the left side it appears, and that would allow for a little more post-acceptance text to display on the page, instead of going on to a second page. in our case, we had MANY reports with one line/word move to a second page. This makes us look unprofessional with what looks like a waste of paper that we didn't bother to fix. Our donors reading these pages don't realize that it is not in our hands. see image where the one word 'undecided' moves to a second page.

I agree with Marie's comments below. Although the donor portal is more innovative, colorful and interactive, Donor Reports are still needed for us because we still have donors who would rather get a paper report or don't use internet/email well. I think some simple changes could go a long way to some more flexibility with the reports, especially with the formatting of the page. There is too much blank/white space under the header and titles. I was able to work with Support to decrease the size of the logo that displays. Marie's suggestions are very reasonable.

I agree that more customization is absolutely needed for donor reports to be viable. At our institution, we would like to be able to change the font type and size of the recipient/disbursement data, hide the recipient photo avatar when a student does not share a photo, hide the date that appears underneath the name of the fund/scholarship, and delete the name of the cover letter that appears at the top of the cover letter. I would also like to see an HTML editor available for any place that a WYSIWYG editor appears. We should be able to customize the style of the site much more than what is currently available. We don't really see the value proposition of the stewardship module if it remains a one-size-fits-all.
